Drug Offender Education Program (DOEP)

Program Description:

This in-person standardized program is 15 hours in length and designed to increase the knowledge of drug offenders by educating them on the dangers of drug abuse and associated illegal activities, to identify their own individual drug-use patterns, and to assist them in developing personal actions plans which reduce the probability of suffering the consequences of future drug using and illegal behavior. Specific course topics include history of drug abuse, drug/DWI laws, dynamics of drug use, drugs of abuse, how drugs work, costs of use and abuse, health issues, HIV, interpersonal relationships, the glamorization of drugs, values and behaviors, past and desired behaviors, getting control of your life, resource options, and personal action planning.

Eligibility

This class is open to the public and generally includes participants who have been placed on probation for a drug offense (misdemeanor and felony or court ordered) as well as persons from the community who require the class for driver’s license reinstatement (due to a prior drug conviction). However, this class may also be used as a sanction appropriate to offenders with a limited history of substance abuse or to help participants understand their vulnerabilities and drug use patterns to make necessary changes. Ultimately, drug offender education aims at steering individuals away from drug-related offenses by helping them draft and follow a personal action plan.

Registration Process

The fee for this class is $150. That amount is due in full before a participant is eligible for enrollment. Please view the schedule and deadlines. Registering after the original registration deadline or the day of class will be considered as "Late Registration" which that amount is $200. Once paid, the participant must complete an enrollment packet which includes a Personal Data Form, Expectations, Pre-Test, and a schedule is given to the offender that details the dates and times of all class sessions. Please have your case #, county of conviction, and an ID. For this program there are five (5) class sessions from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A participant must attend all class sessions to complete the program. A Certificate of Completion shall be issued upon successful completion.  A duplicate certificate of completion may be issued to replace a lost one at the cost of $50.00.  Any missed class will result in the participant being dropped from class; after which, the participant will be required to pay a $150 re-enrollment fee (unless waived by the program administrator) before he/she can be re-registered for the next available class.
