Life is a Journey
Meet Camden Hoeffner
I often think of life as a board game. We make choices—like whether to be the Scotty dog or the thimble in Monopoly. We make decisions—like whether to send someone back to start in Sorry! And along the way, we roll the dice. Sometimes things go exactly as we hope—Yahtzee! Other times, we land on Boardwalk, where someone else has already built a hotel.

Just like in games, the ups and downs of life affect each of us differently. Our strategies and the way we move through the world are unique. But sometimes we reach an impasse and don’t know how to move forward. That’s where I come in. I became a counselor because people are my passion. I value listening, connecting, and helping individuals navigate difficult times. My goal is to equip clients with tools they can use to succeed on their own in the future.

As a counselor, I believe strongly in the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. How we think about the world shapes how we move through it. Experiences can shift those thoughts and feelings until life no longer feels enjoyable. This can even change how we see ourselves—and how others see us. I enjoy teaching clients about relationships, coping skills, mental health, and related topics, because you can’t play the game well without knowing the rules.

I have experience working with a wide range of individuals, particularly those involved with the criminal justice system. I’ve served as a mental health provider in Texas county jails and offered counseling to people on probation and parole. These experiences taught me that struggle does not discriminate—and that everyone has the power to change how they interact with the world. Often, all someone needs is a helping hand.

I am also a proud member of professional associations including ATSA (Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers) and TxATSA (Texas chapter of ATSA), which keep me connected to best practices, ongoing research, and a community of professionals dedicated to ethical and effective treatment.

Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog. I’m passionate about food and love exploring cuisines from around the world. I’m also a voracious reader—usually found in the mornings with a cup of coffee and a book—and, of course, I enjoy playing board games.
